Brief Description of the Project:
The project was designed and implemented to establish Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs) and enhance their capacities in forest management, institutional development, and forest-based enterprise development. Additionally, the project contributed to the preparation of statutory provisions for CFUGs, renewed existing groups, and provided training to CFUG members on income-generating activities and effective forest management. This included managing forest-based nurseries and facilitating tree plantation initiatives.
Major outcomes achieved/ Implementation Success:
  • The project established 42 Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs), covering 4,420.2 hectares of forest area, with 3,459 households participating as CFUG members.
  • Renewed the constitutions and work plans of 39 CFUGs, covering 3,757.28 hectares of forest, benefiting 3,749 households.
  • Conducted silvicultural operations in 112 CFUGs, covering 1,840 hectares, generating an income of NPR 191,811 from product sales.
  • Renewed 56 CFUGs, earning NPR 3,284,916 through the sale of turpentine from 3,568 hectares of forest.
  • Developed community-level climate change adaptation plans in 16 CFUGs, receiving a total of NPR 1,523,663 from the project to implement these plans.
  • Installed improved cooking stoves in 763 households associated with 17 CFUGs and distributed 50 solar sets to poor households.
  • Each of the 16 CFUGs established nurseries, planting a total of 92,000 trees.
  • Provided NPR 2,037,300 as a revolving fund to 718 poor households across 54 CFUGs.
  • Established 3 forest-based enterprises, including a sawmill, providing job opportunities for 12 individuals.
